Scraped Knee
Atlanta, Georgia
Matt Leunig, the artistic force behind Scraped Knee, has firmly established himself in the rock poster art scene with his vibrant and dynamic illustrations. Originally starting as a series of zines and comic books, Scraped Knee evolved into a full-fledged illustration studio in 2006. Leunig’s work, known for its bold colors and intricately detailed designs, has graced posters for a variety of prominent bands, including Foo FightersThe Grateful Dead, Widespread PanicNeil Young, and institutions like The San Francisco Opera.
Leunig’s journey into the art world began with a transient childhood in the Middle East and Greece, eventually landing him in the San Francisco Bay Area in the early 2000s. Growing up, the posters of the Fillmore and psychedelic artists of the ’60s greatly influenced him, sparking his interest in gig posters. The city’s deep history of rock art, crazy music, and creative weirdos was the perfect place to start his career. In addition to gig posters, Leunig’s portfolio includes work for video games, music videos, and various packaging (beer, coffee, skateboards, cannabis) showcasing his versatility as an artist.
After years in San Francisco/Oakland, Leunig had a brief stint in India and Washington DC, eventually moving with his family to Atlanta, Georgia, where he currently resides. Along with TRPS, Leunig helped start the annual Atlanta Rock Poster Show in 2020.
