The American Poster Institute (API) is a non-profit corporation dedicated to furthering public awareness and appreciation of the poster art form. Achenbach Foundation for Graphic Arts
The Achenbach Foundation for Graphic Arts has in its collection more than 90,000 works of art on paper including prints, drawings, artist books, and photographs. Many of these artworks can be viewed by qualified researchers in the George Roberts Seminar Room located at the Legion of Honor with advance notice. Visitors may learn more about print processes in the Jacqueline and Peter Hoefer Print Study Room on Saturdays, when volunteers share the tools used to make relief, intaglio, and planographic prints.
Bill Graham Memorial Foundation
The Bill Graham Memorial Foundation, was formed in January of 2008 in memory of the legendary rock impresario, Bill Graham. The foundation is a public charity that is funded through individual and corporate contributions and grants.
The Foundation is guided by a broad-based group which includes Bill’s sons, several former long-time employees of Bill Graham Presents and other community leaders.
The Mission of the Bill Graham Memorial Foundation is the administration of grants primarily in the areas of music, the arts and education while also supporting social work, environmental protection and spiritual and compassionate projects in the community. The Foundation also organizes and implements education and outreach programs, exhibitions and other events and projects in like areas which carry Bill Graham’s life story forward and keep his spirit of philanthropy alive.
Express Beans
Expresso Beans (aka The EB Art Guide) is an art collector’s community resource built and maintained by a volunteer staff. They provide a wealth of information about graphic art including dimensions, edition size, medium and technique, eBay auction tracking, past and current sales histories, price averages, and much more. They are committed to free public memberships which include personal collection tracking, buying, selling and trading art, EB’s matchmaker function, forums, email notifications, and other options.
Haight Street Art Center
Haight Street Art Center promotes advancement in poster art production and education related to poster art’s history and cultural impact. They are deeply committed to extending San Francisco’s proud heritage of publicly accessible artwork—artwork created to attract, advocate and connect people. Informed and influenced by native Bay Area roots, this evocative art form continues to grow, innovate, and play a vital role in American popular culture.
San Francisco History Days
A free annual celebration of San Francisco’s unique past at the Old U.S. Mint.
On the weekend of March 2 and 3, 2019, the Old Mint will become a pop-up museum of San Francisco history featuring more than 75 exhibitors at the San Francisco History Days at the Old Mint. Join community historians, archivists, genealogists, archaeologists, researchers, educators, reenactors, and other history enthusiasts for a free Community Open House at this historic site. Past history weekends at the Old Mint have brought together dozens of organizations to celebrate and tell the City’s unique history, and have attracted several thousand participants.
San Francisco Historical Society
The San Francisco Historical Society’s mission is to preserve, interpret, present, and disseminate historical data, information, and knowledge relating to the City and County of San Francisco so as to enhance the experience of living in or visiting San Francisco.
Youth Poster Contest
The Youth Poster Contest provides Marin youth, ages 12-18, a unique, very public platform and an exceptionally-wide audience for expressing their hope, optimism and concerns about social justice, women’s rights, immigration, firearms regulation, climate change, bullying and other issues that affect their lives.
