Since 2008, The Rock Poster Society has published limited-edition screen prints to raise money for the Artist Relief Trust (ART), which supports rock-poster artists who are having a tough time financially due to medical emergencies and other unforeseen circumstances.
The first ART poster was actually a private project initiated in 2008 by artist Dave Hunter, who passed away in 2017. Hunter, a friend of fellow artist Alton Kelley, designed and printed a poster on his own initiative to help Kelley’s family, which had been struggling with the rock-poster icon’s health issues prior to his own passing on June 1, 2008. To honor his friend, who loved motorcycles, Hunter chose a stock image of a 2007 Harley-Davidson Twin Cam 96 engine, crowned by Kelley’s name in Rick Griffin-style lettering.
Here are all of the official ART posters, beginning with Hunter’s poster for Kelley.
